Norethisterone is a progesterone-only contraceptive pill (does not contain estrogen). It prevents pregnancy by thickening the cervical mucus,inhibiting ovulation and decreasing motility of the fallopian tubes. To reduce risk of pregnancy, this pill must be taken the way it is prescribed. Oral contraceptive pills do not protect from sexually transmitted diseases
